Article II

And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord.

We now confess our belief in the Lamb on the Altar. It's no coincidence that the section dealing with the Lamb is longer than any of the other sections. All of Scripture testifies of Him. The name Jesus means "Yahweh saves"! A confession of the name of Jesus is a confession that you need the Lamb on the Altar--there's something terribly wrong with you--you need a savior. When you confess that Jesus is the Christ or Messiah, you are confessing that He is the annointed one. He was annointed at His baptism as our great High Priest. He took our sins upon Himself. The Lamb is the only Son of the Father by nature. We are adopted through baptism and become Sons. We become sons on the basis of the work of the only true Son. He is our Lord. He is not just my Lord or your Lord or some generic lord. He is our Lord. He is our Master. He is our King. "Lord" is used in the New Testament as the equivalent of "Yahweh." The Lamb is Yahweh.
